Guys in the Navy are freaks…

Before you all start yelling at me I didn’t make that statement. My coworker did. But I found it to be hilarious and partially true… past experiences and such. But this week I’ve found out that it’s really not only the Navy guys. The reason that statement was made is because we work for the military and have been at a mil.itary conference all week. On a daily basis we are getting visually assaulted. From the metro to walking to the hotel to sitting in the lobby it’s been one comment or one long glare after the other. The first day I was like they are just being really nice. But on day three I’m thinking about rolling in there looking like ugly.betty tomorrow. It’s one thing to tell me I look nice it’s another thing to say it and look at me from head to toe and bite your lip at the same time… It’s even worse when dude is like 65 and married. Oh yeah he was in the navy too…

I should be in bed…

But I’m on here writing. So many things going on and it’s a little hectic in my mind so I can’t sleep. A little nervous yet excited about the weekend. For the first time in ages a majority of my linesisters will be together. A day of reconnecting and bonding and just having some girl time. The night before that the P&W team I sing on is having a concert. I’m really excited about that because it’s a unity concert. Different praise and worship groups that cross color, ethnic and style lines are coming together for a night of worship. This is the opportunity for us to get some exposure out of what we’ve already been getting. I think it will really be an exciting and uplifting night.

But what I’m REALLY really REALLY excited about is that I just read my itenerary for my South Africa trip in the summer. I haven’t traveled out of the country (except warm and sunny destinations) in a really long time so I am looking forward to Johannesburg and Durban and Cape Town and all the little places in between. This is an alumni excursion hosted by my grad school. Supposedly over 130 black and latino alumni and their guests are going. What really has me excited is going to see where my main man Shaka Zulu lived I really really really love this movie and the history of him in general. I watched this in a history of Africa class where I was the ONLY negro. And when the movie was done I was ready to fight every white person that came out the class lol . Anyway it’s a 10 day excursion and I’m amped. I’ve been reading books and searching the web and trying to decide how the ultimate overpacker that would be me is going to pack one bag that is underweight for 10 days. Any suggestions yall?!?!

Well I really need to go to bed. I have to be at work at 7:30 (for yall that know me that is extremely early for me, I used to wake up at that time). But I love my new job (pr in military health.care) so much that 9.5 hour days speed by very quickly. Also the paycheck helps me get up and go as well lol. Only down side is that AIM doesn’t work there lol. But anyway the bed is calling.

au revoir
